Natural Phenomenon, Aurora!

Aurora is a natural phenomenon looks like some visible light that danced through a beautiful sky with a variety of colors. Aurora is a natural phenomenon that usually occurs in the polar regions, both south and north poles. However, the aurora itself is often seen on the tropical mountain areas, but aurora type is very rare.

Recently discovered that aurora not only happens on Earth, but on other planets also. In fact, it is quite natural to happen on planets that located in the Milky Way. One of the aurora was detected in Jupiter. Even in Jupiter the aurora is 100 times brighter than aurora that existing on the earth.

Moreover, even in another planet estimated that there are up to 100 thousand times brighter than the aurora that are on earth. But it is very difficult to detect because the proficiency level so many planets in the galaxy, and so the distance of the planets.

Aurora itself occurs in the ionosphere. Where the light generated is due to the interaction between the magnetic field of a planet with charged particles emitted by the sun (solar wind).

Aurora created because of the billions of particles of energy that consists of protons and electrons leveled the sun at high speeds of up to 500 miles per second in a beam of sunlight. The emission is usually called the solar wind or solar wind that formed due to a large explosion on the surface of the sun (Coronal Mass Ejection).

After a trip to the earth that can last up to two to three days, solar particles and Earth's magnetic field which causes the release of the particles collide with each other which has been stuck near the earth. then, the trapped particles trigger a reaction on the upper atmosphere (ionosphere) where oxygen and nitrogen molecules in action and release photons of light. Photons of light is what we see as a bright light that danced above the sky is called the aurora.

NASA itself as a leading organization that conducts research on space and earth still do various research about this aurora. Among them is through the launch of a rocket which is part of the mission of the Ground-to-Rocket correlative Electrodynamics-Electron Experiment (GREECE) in March this year. The mission aims to better understand how the aurora is formed.

Aurora itself only consists of two kinds, that occur only in north and south pole:

  • Aurora Borealis

Aurora Borealis is auroras occur at the north pole. Borealis itself is the Greek language of the north wind. Aurora berealis can be seen in arctic region which includes the North Country Canada, Alaska, Russia, and Scandinavia.

  • Aurora Australis

As the name suggests, these auroras are common happens in the southern hemisphere. So no wonder if the name is resemblant as the country nearby south pole, Australia. In addition, this type of aurora also occurred highest mountains in Indonesia. Aurora Australis gets its name adapted to the Roman god of dawn, Aurora, who is also the Latin word for dawn. Then Australis derived from the Latin word for the South, while the Aurora Australis literally means dawn, or light south.

Thats all, thankyou!
